8 Mistakes to avoid as a 1st year MBBS student

Medical School is a big dream for thousands of medical aspirants. We struggle so much just to accomplish what we always dreamt of. We undergo a great transformation from a regular school student to a medical student and this is great turning point of our lives which involves our future and career.

As we about to enter a medical school finally, we have so many hopes and expectations as what we are about to face further. Few mistakes if done can spoil our own expectations and hopes.

What are these mistakes that I am talking about ?
Let's find out below!!

1.Having a  Predetermined Mindset

Predetermined Mindset is having a fixed mindset related to something. Medical life is totally a different life. The mindset what we have regarding to medical school would is not completely correct. As in, we are always surrounded by talks that medical school is tough, we need to study all day and we don't enjoy other things etc. Indeed medical life is tough but we cannot stop living our lives, we cannot stop enjoying our precious moments with our family and friends.

What is the solution ?
Balance both the lives- medical and our personal lives.
Keep a positive and good balanced mindset.
Never have a mindset prepared before, just go with the flow and keeping in mind that we have to study.

2.Taking too much of stress

Stress is a feeling of emotional tension that results in frustration and anger. As we have come across that students are most stressful human beings on this planet. As this is a phase where we come across  a lot of changes and transformations in physical, mental and emotional aspects.
Medical life can be stressful as we are studying about ourselves!!

What is the solution ?
Practice meditation
Involve in some hobbies
Try to be calm as much as possible
Exercise
Listen to some music

3.Use of Multiple books

As we are all aware that medicine is equal to a pile of books. Indeed we need to study from varieties of books. For one subject we tend to have so many books which is totally a waste instead pick a good standard book recommended in your college and only study from that.

What happens if we study from multiple books ?
As medicine is vast field, reading multiple books could be a good idea but as we step as a fresher we are not used to read from multiple books and each book has its own way of explaining concepts. Some might find one book easy and for some not. Based on our ability of understanding, choose one book which is standard and which helps us in understanding the concepts rather than confusing us.

4.Not Studying everyday.

As we become a medical student, we become lifelong learner also. Medicine requires time and dedication for understanding the concepts. When we loose our touch with books we never be able to succeed in exams. Subjects like Anatomy, Pathology etc requires so much time because they are most difficult and important subjects throughout MBBS.

How can we stop cramming last minute ?
It is better to just finish off what we were taught on that particular day itself. Avoid piling up the topics that need to be cleared just before exams that  eventually leads to last minute cramming. When we finish topics on that particular day itself we can clear doubts later and build a strong concepts.

5.Ignoring small tests and internals.

Tests and exams scares us a lot because they show our worth. When we enter medical school, we tend to chill out as we have just finished our biggest exams-NEET UG,AIIMS exams etc. These habits are very dangerous because it makes us unproductive and unmotivated. Syllabus pile up on us. These will put a great pressure on us and we fail to pass.

What is the solution ?
Read the topics on day it is done. Do not procrastinate the topics. Take all the tests seriously because it will surely help in future for final exams.

6.Not maintaining proper attendance

Attendance is most important factor which is a part of academics. Maintaining good attendance is really necessary in order to qualify and be eligible to write final exams.  By attending classes it helps us to build skills ,concepts, clearing our doubts and other activities. Therefore, we need to attend classes regularly otherwise we will be held accountable for our mistake of not maintaining good attendance.

7.No good interaction

Human beings are social beings. We cannot survive without help and interactions.
Medical school is a world of different people. We meet so many people at one place with different perspectives. We tend to be intimidated with the fact that people will never accept how we are. The lecturers, seniors and batch mates will be a part of our lives. They are people we look forward if we need help whether in academics or other activities.

What should you do ?
Start a conversation with people you meet. Initially we do not find like minded people but gradually we will find them. Try to interact with as many as people you meet. Share your thoughts some may find it a waste of time and some may find it genius thought. Seek help whenever it is needed.

8.Involving in bad addictions

College is the very first place where we try to be cool and impress people with what we have or what we do .In process of doing so we unfortunately get addicted to some very hazardous and bad addictions. These habits will affect us in wrong manner in future and destroys us. It is like we are digging our own grave.

What is the solution ?
Avoid and stay away from these habits. If you are stressed out, start doing yoga or go to gym or start doing good hobbies or talk to someone you know. Nothing is more important than your health and life.

So, these were few tips that will surely help our future medical students and aspirants.
If you found this helpful and useful, share it with your fellow mates, juniors and everyone.

Keep studying and keep achieving !!!
